Amy Wilson and Geno Hounsham added their names to the list of race winners in the GBR Series, this year sponsored by Copper Horse. Neither Wilson or Hounsham lead after the first run but produced strong performances to take the race wins.
Wilson had trailed Agi Favill after the first run by just under half a second. She knew that Abi Putman had put in a very strong second run when she left the start and while she was 0.08 seconds slower that the Aldershot racer, Wilson had enough to go fastest overall. Putman had been in 8th after the first run and produced the fastest second run to pull herself back up into contention.
Favill had produced the run of the first run to have a strong lead over the rest of the field but maybe the pressure of leading the race where she trains regularly got to her and she slipped down to third overall.
Putman was not the only racer to struggle on the first run, set by Robin Kellen, as a number of racers struggled with the top setting and it caught a few out. The second run, set by Dave Eaves, was more open but it still made the racers think.
Favill took third with Chloe Chapman taking fourth and Amber Fennell rounding out the top five overall.

In the men's race Geno Hounsham scored his third win of the season (he also win in Pendle and Rossendale) while Adam Lee, who lead after the first run, had been hoping to make it two wins on the bounce after winning at the Pembrey Club National. These two racers were a class apart from the rest of the field.
Freddie Montgomery emerged with third place just ahead of Monty Bedwell with Hudson Lamb taking fifth(and in doing so made it three Welsh racers in the top five finishers). Lamb recently caught the eye of Dave Ryding in a competition for support from Fischer and has grown in confidence with this support.
It is promising to see good fields in the competition even if a number of the lower seed pointed racers did not attend due to exam season looming.
Race two takes place on Sunday in the Copper Horse GBR Series
