It was a close call but Zak Carrick-Smith from the British Ski Academy listened to the advice given to him in the start and took the win in the opening Boy's race at the 2022 British Alpine Children's Championships. Carrick-Smith was just 0.09 ahead of William Freear with Emerson Proctor in third. The top five were rounded out by Daniel Philips and Danta Adam Vidri.
The perfect conditions gave all the racers the opportunity to really attack the exciting course set by Marc Telling. With racers having to be aware of one gate as they come over a rise towards the finish where racers were drawn to the outside gate. They had to trust their instinct and course inspection and go for the inside gate. Those that got it right, made good times.
Speed racers are a matter of team work and having coaches down the course relaying information like this back is vital.
With just 0.12 separating places three to five, this was a close run affair and showed some great racing. It was a good day for the Apex 2100 racers with two on the Under 16 podium and two also in the Under U14 race as they enjoyed home slope knowledge.
Hamish Blyth took the race win in the Under 14 race ahead of Oscar Flight with Ben Wontner in third. The top five in the age group were rounded out by Oliver Martin and Jake Leonard.
