Vinter wins Junior Downhill Title

For the first time in his Junior racing career, Owen Vinter took the top place in the British National Junior Downhill title race. Vinter took the win ahead of Max Laughland with Ed Guigonnet in third. The top five British racers were rounded out by Elliott Bennett and Toby Jennings. The race was won by Roy Steudle but as a senior is not eligible for prizes.

This was only the third time in the last five years that the British Championships have run and with his coach at the Championships, Iain Innes, having been the Junior champion in 2019, the last time the race was run, there was a feeling of handing on the title in the finish area.

Vinter started early in the softening snow and laid down a marker for the rest of the British Junior downhillers. While Steudle was nearly a second faster than Vinter to take the Overall race win, Vinter was over a second faster than Laughland, who backed up his impressive performance in the National Title race to take second in the Junior race, two hundredths ahead of Guigonnet.

Guigonnet is looking forward now to the technical events but will face increased competition as more of the technical minded racers make their way to Tignes.
