It has been some time since a Welsh racer has topped the results in the Welsh Championships and Edouard Guigonnet produced the goods after coming from third after the first run to win the race. David Christey was the only other British racer to make the top ten overall with Kaylan Huisman Muro the third British racer home down in 18th. In the women's race Stuart took fourth place overall with Nicole Ritchie producing a devastating second run to claw herself back up the leaderboard and finishing 7th, just a tenth behind Stuart, with the second fastest second run.
Ryan Bloom had been in a promising position both overall and among the British racers in second after the first run but sadly crashed out on the second run when looking in great form. Nicole Ritchie, who has only had 11 days on snow prior to the Welsh Championships as she has combined her degree at Stirling University with racing and training with Ambition, produced a much improved second run that saw her attacking the business end of the race after the second run.
Giselle Gorringe, Lucy Bingle-Williams and Shannon Potter placed three to five in the British race but the performance of the day in the girls race was the career best result of Stuart with an 87 point FIS result. Michelle Hermann of Switzerland took the Women's race win.
Guigonnet posted a spectacular second run to win the race by 0.80 from two Swiss racers, Alessio Baracci and Bastian Fracheboud, who rose from 14th after the first run with a time that was just 0.06 slower than Guigonnet. Guigonnet spent the time around the races under the guidance of Alain Baxter and the British Ski Academy and he was hugely grateful for the support from Baxter and the rest of the BSA coaches as he spoke after winning the race.
Christey moved up two places with a solid second run while Huisman-Muro dropped two bout still came away with a strong personal best in slalom.
