Honor Clissold and Leo Karavisili took race wins in the British organised races taking place in El Colorado, Chile. Clissold was fourth in the first of the two Giant Slaloms and then won the second while Karavisili was third in the first race and then scored a tremendous 41 point result in the second of the races.
With the Evolution FIS team making Chile their summer training base again this year, the team have been blessed with great conditions for the races. On their Facebook page, they explained how things had gone: ‘Thanks to some great cooperation from Wyn and his team in El Colorado and the organising committee from the Chilean Ski Federation, we ran two FIS GS races down the South American Cup Piste, one race in the morning and one in the afternoon, finishing before 3pm and providing the opportunity for 80 racers to get points on the board early in the season.’
The British racers down in Chile produced some great results as they explained again on their Facebook page: ‘All of the first year FIS athletes achieved their goal of put results on the board, with Jack Cunningham and Tom Butterworth standing out by scoring sub-100 point results and finishing 3rd and fourth U18s and Jake Lunn achieving his first ever FIS result, to the huge celebrations of his teammates!’
And in the girls races Lois Jackson also stuck in a PB result, while Team Evolution athletes picked up 3 out of 4 overall wins, with Anna Esteve (races for Spain but trains with Evolution) and Honor Clissold - Alpine Skier winning the women's races, while Leo Karavasili won GS race 2 against some strong competition and also picked up a 41-point PB that sets him up nicely for the season.’
With more races scheduled in Chile, it looks like the Chile camp and Evolution set up is a positive move this year.
