Reece Bell got back to winning ways in the South African National Championship race to take her sixth victory in the resort of Tiffindell. Daisi Daniels continued her fine performances in taking her third podium place with third in the National Junior Championship race. Thomas Cherry was runner up in both the National Championship and the National Junior Championship races.
Bell had to come from behind the Championship race as Belgian Marjolein Decroix, nine years Bell’s senior, pushed the younger racer hard in trying to take the win. Bell raised her game on the second run to overturn the half a second deficit and take the win by just over two-tenths of a second. Zoe Karavasili took fifth, Kathryn Bailey seventh and Milly Cowell eighth.
Decroix got her win in the Junior Championship race after Bell crashed out on the second run. Daniels took third place in this race behind Portuguese first year FIS racer Vanina Guerillot. Zoe Karavasili and Isabelle Lander took seventh and eighth.
Thomas Cherry added to his podium collection with second place in both the National Championship and Junior Championship races. Close in on the leader in both races, Cherry drifted off the pace on the second run in both races but held on for the runners up spot. Ryan Bloom and Diaco Abrishami took fourth and sixth to give good representation by the British racers in the top ten.
Abrishami went one place better in the Junior Championship race with fifth place.
With two more entry level races scheduled for the 31st, the South African trip so far has been a good marker for the early season result from those going.
