His ability has been known about for some time but Leo Karavisili produced a stunning performance to top the pile of English racers at the English Alpine Championships in Bormio. From a starting bib of 42, Karavisili fought his way into tenth place overall leaving Angus Wills and Max Vaughton to take second and third amongst the British racers. The Overall podium saw an Italian clean sweep of the podium with Sebastiano Andreis taking the win ahead of Simon Talacci and Alessandro Sallini.
Zak Vinter was the only British racer to make it into the top fifteen starters but the talented and promising Glasgow racer was unable to reproduce the form he has been showing this season, a season that started off with him scoring a hugely impressive 8 point result in Slalom and an error laden second run saw him drop to 25th, just ahead of his younger brother Owen.
Karavisili has been training with the Evolution set up and his results improving by the race. The 55 point result he scored in this race was a career best FIS point result and shows what can be achieved through hard work and dedication. This was just the third time he had gone under 70 points but what a place to do this at, at a major British race with some strong international racers in it!
Angus Wills started one place behind Max Vaughton and put down a marker on the first run to show that he meant business. Vaughton raised his game on the second run but Wills had too much advantage to be overhauled.
With Vinter struggling with the aggressive snow on the second run, he dropped from second among the British racers to fourth with Owen Vinter finishing three tenths behind his brother.
With eight racers going under the 100 point result, there is a growing tide of young racers that are pushing each other on to bigger and better results.
