Charlie Guest continued her fine run of form with third place in the opening Giant Slalom in New Zealand Giant Slalom Championships in Coronet Peak. The race was won by ... Polish racer Sabina Majerczyk with Norwegian Kristin Anna Lysdahl in second. While the Norwegian had been leading after the first run with Guest just five hundredths behind, Guest suffered on the second run to drop time and the Polish racer was able to pass both the leading two racers to take her the win. Darcie Mead finished in 16th spot.
In the Men's race Jack Gower was disqualified on the second run and Lawrie Taylor finished well down the field as American all rounder Jared Goldberg took the win. Daniel Barton, one of the promising Children from the last few years started out on his FIS career as well in the race.
In the second of the two Giant Slaloms scheduled at Coronet Peak, Mead raised her game to finish tenth and score a respectable 71 point FIS result. Mead has taken the step up this season to spend it training and racing with Charlie Guest and Alex Tilley after having spent the last few years training with the Evolution set up based in Radstadt, Austria. Sadly neither Charlie Guest, Alex Tilley or Rachelle Rogers finished the race, all crashing out on the second run. Majerczyk won the second race as well.
In the men's race Gower again crashed out as Taylor repeated the performance of the first day and Barton improved by around 20 FIS points from his first result. Goldberg again took the win.
