With less than 200 days until the 2014 Winter Olympic Games start in Sochi, a record breaking programme has been unveiled by the organisers of the Games. The Games, that run from February 7th until the 23rd, will see action in Alpine Skiing, Bobsleigh, Skeleton, Freestyle skiing, Skier Cross, Cross Country skiing, Biathlon, Ski Jumping as well as Ice skating, luge, curling and ice hockey.
With the Games spread over two areas, one by the coast and the other in the mountain, the vast majority will be at the mountain cluster (69 events). A total of 12 events - nine of which are skiing disciplines such as women's ski jumping which will feature for the first time in Olympic history - were added to the Sochi 2014 programme to make next year's Winter Games two events larger than Vancouver 2010, six larger than Turin 2006, 10 larger than Salt Lake City 2002 and 11 larger than Albertville 1992.
"The number of competitions taking place at the Games popular among young people has significantly increased as eight events in freestyle skiing and snowboard [four in each discipline] have been added to the Olympic programme including ski halfpipe, ski slopestyle, snowboard slopestyle and snowboard parallel slalom," added a Sochi 2014 statement.
