After almost a month over the Christmas and New Year holiday period without racing, TJ Baldwin came back with a superb 11th place in the second of two Europa Cup Downhills in Wengen. Although not down the full World Cup course, this is one of the toughest Europa Cup downhills of the season. Baldwin placed 34th ion the first of the two races and then came down from a start number of 54 to post the tenth best time. One later runner bumped him down to 11th but this was still a great result. Dougie Crawford placed 48 and 49 in the two races.
The production line of British talent coming out of the British Ski Academy will have two more names that have become members of the World Cup racers group in the next week as Alex Tilley and Charlie Guest will both be making their World Cup debuts. Tilley will race in the Giant Slalom and Slalom at Maribor and the week before Charlie Guest will race in the night slalom in Flachau, Austria. Both racers have benefitted from support from the British Ski Academy with Guest having virtually been trained there for most of her early days. "Had it not been for the Rannoch Burseries, many of the young racers would not be where they are today," explained Malcolm Erskine from the British Ski Academy during the recent BSA Grand Prix and Anglo Scottish races. Â Guest and Tilley join the likes of TJ Baldwin, Ed Drake, Dave Ryding, Chemmy Alcott and others in having benefitted from the expertise of the BSA in getting to the World Cup.
