Odermatt conquers his Norwegian nemesis

Day seven of the World Championships didn’t disappoint, with an action packed Men’s Downhill event.

Marco Odermatt was a level above the rest of the field on the Roc de Fer piste in Courchevel, France.

It was the star’s maiden downhill victory at this level, and he took it with style making no errors.

It took the run of his life to finally get on the top step in this discipline, and beat his rival Aleksander Aamodt Kilde of Norway.

He took to the course brilliantly, demonstrating amazing line and power throughout the run.

His result made it two from two for the Swiss team after Jasmine Flury won the women’s downhill race yesterday.

The 25 year old wore bib number ten, and at the time of his run took the lead off the man who was first out of the gate, Florian Schieder, by 1.07 seconds.

The result tees up the World Champion up well for Fridays Giant Slalom event, which is his preferred discipline.

Second to Odermatt was Kilde, 0.48 off the pace.

Cameron Alexander of Canada came from bib 20 to wrap up the podium places, with an incredible recovery in the final section of course.

The star was forced on to his inside leg at the bottom of the course, but showed fantastic skill and strength to hold on.

The Canadian did wonders to stay on his feet, never mind finishing third in a World Championship event.

Defending World Downhill Champion, Vincent Kriechmayr, was off the pace of the top racers, finishing 11th.
