Toby Jennings battled hard to finish in ninth place overall in the NJR Slalom at Bormio and take the honours as being the honour of being the best of the British racers. Elliot Bennett was second among the British racers with Alex Davies taking third. The race was won by Spain's Ander Mintegui.
There is a healthy competition going on between some of the next generation of racers from Britain. They are seeing the likes of Laurie Taylor and Billy Major scoring points on the World Cup and there is a belief that they too can do this. The number of options that are in front of then in terms of how they get there is vast and this leads to more determination from each racer.
Bennett felt his first run had been a little too comfortable and let his skis do the talking on the second run to challenge Jennings for the Best of the Brits accolade.
Jennings had enough in the bank from the first run to hold off the charging Bennett and still managed to score a career best result of 62 FIS points. In trying to chase Jennings down, Bennett managed to also score a career best result in Slalom, lowering his best result to 63 points.
While the likes of Lucas Ellis and Harry Black have placed on the podium in the Giant Slalom races, in finishing 9th and 11th equal, these two have shown that British racers are not there just to make up the numbers.
Kieran Woolley looked to be challenging Jennings and Bennett but made a huge mistake near the top and from there on in, it was a case of damage limitation.
Alex Davies scored his best result of the season in taking third among the British racers, 18th overall, as he battled hard to try and match the place he made a year before, 6th.
