Candice Bomberg put the work in on her second run to lift herself from eighth to finish fourth overall in the NJR Slalom at the English Alpine Championships. Maisie Blyth took second among the British racers with Emma Menaghetti third out of the British racers.
With aggressive snow meaning racers had to temper their aggression, there was a high casualty rate through the field. Honor Bartlett had lead the British contingent after the first run but could not carry it through to the finish on the second run.
Bomberg was in determined mood and attacked the top section of the course and then carried the speed across of the flats to benefit from other racers crashing out or making mistakes that scrubbed off time. Confident skiing resulted in a strong performance by Bomberg.
This was the third best result of her career, coning shortly after scoring her career best to date at the European Youth Olympics in Tarvisio last month. Confidence breeds success and Bomberg will benefit from this as the season continues.
Like Bomberg, Maisie Blyth also scored a career third best result in taking 10th overall. Meneghetti is fast rising up the rankings in her first year of racing and while she has put in the miles chasing races around Europe, the different snow conditions that she has experienced, will stand her in good stead through her career.
Spain took a one two with June Garitano Iturbe winning the race from Arrieta Rodriguez Elosgui. Third place was taken by Giulia Romele of Italy.
