During an examination in Innsbruck, initial fears were unfortunately confirmed: Marco Schwarz suffered a torn cruciate ligament in his right knee during his fall in Bormio today.
On the last descent of the year, the 28-year-old from Carinthia received a blow to his right knee after a left turn in the middle section and subsequently slipped into the safety net. “After the swing, it pushed my right knee in. “I immediately sensed that something wasn’t 100% right,” Schwarz recalls the bitter moment.
Schwarz then felt pain in his right knee and was therefore transported to Innsbruck (Hochrum) for a detailed examination. After the MRI scan, the fears became a sad reality: Schwarz suffered a tear in the anterior cruciate ligament, a tear in the medial meniscus and slight cartilage damage (inside) in his right knee during the fall. Despite the severity of the injury, “Blacky” appeared calm after the diagnosis: “I immediately noticed that something wasn’t right. Even if an operation is necessary, I am doing well under the circumstances. The focus is forward and the goal is clear: I want to get back to where I was. I will give everything for that.”
After the fateful fall on his debut on the Stelvio, the season ended prematurely for the then leader in the overall World Cup. From now on, the all-rounder is concentrating on his full recovery.

According to the treating doctor, today's operation on Marco Schwarz's right knee went without any complications. “The procedure took about an hour and a half. The anterior cruciate ligament, the medial meniscus and the cartilage damage were surgically repaired,” explained knee specialist Christian Fink from the Hochrum Private Clinic.
After the procedure, the knee must be supported with crutches for several weeks. The months-long rehabilitation begins this evening with light, physiotherapeutic measures.
