Some of the racers may have been small but the way they craved and let their skis head down the hill, gave some of the older racers a wake up call as to the talent on display. Lowri Howie and Bella Sullivan took the race wins in the girls Under 10 and Under 12 races with Xavier Poynton and Harri Hodson making it a double Welsh win in the boys race as they took the U10 and U12 wins respectively.
With two runs and best time to count, the Ali Duvall set course was there to challenge the youngsters. And they were up for it by looking at their faces at the start and during inspection.
Howie comfortably lead Ava Green and Fleur Allaway home in the Under 10 race with the fastest time on both runs. Iris Smith and Neave Masters rounded out the top five.
In the older girls race, Bella Sullivan edged Brooke Baxter and Lucy O'Connor with O'Connor closing the gap on Baxter on the second run but not able to overhaul her time. Alice Beveridge and Tia Freshwater rounded out the top five in the older age group.
Xavier Poynton, part of the resurgent North Wales Flyers and Ambition race groups, came from third after the first run to win the Under 10 race with Harry Gilson and Harri Jones rounding out the podium places. Gilson had lead after the first run but Poynton gave it his all to storm to the win.
Harri Hodson produced another of the great runs as he put the pressure on the rest of the field with a super impressive first run and then let the rest of the field react. Ryan Faber was in second after the first run but crashed on run two with Oliver Martin, just 0.05 behind him. Run two saw Martin go quicker than Hodson but could not match the first run time and he remained in third. Oscar Flight was another to do his time to count on run one before crashing on run two while Matthew Butler, did things the other way. Butler crashed on run one before posting the fastest second run time despite the slowing snow, to move into fifth overall.
The future is definitely bring with the level of the mini's racing!
