When the chips are down and the prize is on the line, the racer that goes for it is the one most likely to be rewarded. Both Isabel Nowell and Ryan Faber produced runs that were faster than their peers could muster and thus skied away with the British Indoor Mini titles.
Newell was fastest on both runs in the girls race to head the podium with Alice Bond and Grace Cameron joining her on the Overall Mini podium with Brooke Baxter and Harriet Scoular rounding out the top five. The battling nature of the racers of tomorrow was great to see and while Nowell, Cameron, Baxter and Scoular will all move up to the Under 14 races next summer, Bond will be back to try and go one better next year. Lowri Howie was the fastest on the Under 10 racers.
This was the fourth time that Isabel Nowell has won either her age group or the overall in the Mini race. the first time that she won, back in 2016, the overall mini race winner that day was Charlotte Holmes. Holmes won the main event this year!
In the boys race, Faber did not have it all his own way on the first run. Adam Orzel posted the fastest time on run one ahead of Jacob Dawson and Joshua Sundin. Run two saw the racers step up their game and faster times were aplenty.
Faber went over eight tenths of a second faster as did Freddie Webb but just twelve hundredths slower than Faber. Grant Messinger went from having no time on the first run to being a quarter of a second behind Faber and jumping into third place overall. This was Faber's seventh win on the spin this summer.
First run leader Orzel went faster than his first run as well but not as fast as Faber, Webb and Messinger to drop down to fourth with Sundin also going quicker than his first run but with a time good enough for fifth. Aaron McDonald took the Under 10 race win.
Faber will return again next year to defend his title while Webb, Messinger and Orzel will all move up to the Under 14 age group next summer.
