Sophie Foster produced a fast run down the Stelvio piste in Bormio to capture the English Alpine Super G Championship title. From start number one, Foster benefited from the clean course conditions to win her fourth Super G of the season after having won all three Super G races in the Evolution Speed series in January. British Ski Academy racer, Daisi Daniels, took second, just 0.19 behind Foster with Eleanor Scranage Harrison taking third ahead of the two Ward sisters, Isla just ahead of Erin, in fourth and fifth.
The second of the two Super G races set for the English Alpine Championships was set by Ambition coach Rob Bullen. The general consensus from racers and coaches was one of approval as it used the terrain and allowed the racers to attack the course as well as generating speed down the same slope that the Men's World Cup use for their December Downhill.
While Foster was delighted to take the top spot on the podium, Daniels was less than pleased after having won the the first of the two races. The second race was designated as the Championship race and the points earned from this race would go towards the Championship points score. Advantage Foster at the moment. Daniels challenged Sarah Woodward last season and this year, Daniels is the older racer and is being challenged by Foster. It will be interesting to see how she reacts being the hunted rather than the hunter over the rest of the season.
Scranage Harrison was just under a second and a half behind the leading two racers yet comfortably ahead of Isla Ward in fourth who edged her sister out by just two tenths of a second. Both Ward sisters are benefiting from the time they are able to spend on snow as they have moved over to the Apex 2100 project based in Tignes. The two sisters took the top two places in the U14 age group with Honor Bartlett taking third place in the age group and 13th Overall.
Erin Ward again had battled from a lower start number to come in fifth, having started bib number 60. Tilly Black started one number before Ward and the CDC racer was just over two tenths behind Ward. Another racer to produce a stunning performance from a low start number was relative newcomer to racing, Eleanor Valentine from the British Ski Academy. Valentine had started bib 63 to finish in 12th place in only the ninth seeded race of her career.
