“This ones for you Holcy” was the message from USA’s Greubel Poser as she took the Gold medal with brakeman Lauren Gibbs at what was Steven Holcomb’s, who passed away suddenly earlier this year at the age of thirty seven, home track.
Greubel-Poser the 2017 World Championships bronze medallist held off the challenges of the Olympic Champion Kaillie Humphries (CAN) with Melissa Lotholz (0.10 seconds back) into second place with World Champion Elana Meyers-Taylor (USA, 0.27 seconds behind) with Lolo Jones taking the bronze medal on the World Cup podium in Park City.
Adding to the significance of this race at Holcomb’s home track Meyers-Taylor speaking to the press added “It’s always great to compete in Park City, It’s our second home, and also it’s Holcomb’s home, so being able to compete here and get a World Cup medal is awesome.”
Very heavy snow caused the race to be postponed to the evening and the wind and snow continued into the race making conditions difficult for all competitors.
Following the second of the season’s eight races in the BMW IBSF World Cup 2017/2018, the overall standings for the Olympic winter are as follows: Kallie Humphries (CAN, 435 points) leads Jamie Greubel Poser (USA, 417) and Elana Meyers Taylor (USA, 410).
Great Britain's sled piloted by Mica Mcneill with Mica Moore finished 13th taking them to equal 10th on the IBSF Would Cup standings on 280 points.
The circuit now moves on to race three next weekend, to the 2010 Olympic Track Whistler, Canada, the fastest track in the world.
