Oxygène Ski & Snowboard School sponsor GBR Alpine Race Series

Oxygène Ski & Snowboard School have been announced as sponsors of the GBR Alpine Race Series, which takes place this spring and summer at indoor and artificial slopes across the UK. ...

The new partnership will see Oxygène, who have ski and snowboard schools based in Val d'Isere, Courchevel, Belle Plagne and La Plagne, offer two scholarships to the Oxygène Ski Academy, worth 6000 Euros per person, as well as supporting the GBR Alpine Race series and attending selected races.

The GBR Alpine Race Series is run by the three Home Nations governing bodies - Snowsport England, Snowsport Scotland and Snowsports Wales and consists of nine races across the UK. The action kicks off next May Bank Holiday Monday, 4 May, with the first Outdoor Race at Gloucester Ski Centre. The indoor racing side of the series then moves to Chill Factore in Manchester on 9 and 10 May with the first two Indoor Races. The GBR race series then continues into June and July with races at Snozone in Braehead, Gloucester and Pontypool (see below for full list of dates).

The GBR Alpine Race Series is the highest level of ski racing on UK slopes with the exception of National Championships. Promising young skiers, competing in age categories from Under 10 upwards, will take part in the series, with Under 14s upwards taking part in seeded races. For competitors who are considering a career as a snowsports instructor, they are invited to put themselves forward for nomination for the Oxygène Ski Academy scholarships at races throughout the series. In October, two athletes will be selected to receive the scholarships and become part of the Academy.

Tim Fawke, Chief Executive of Snowsport England, said of the partnership with Oxygène: “We are delighted to have such a high profile partner on-board to support the GBR Alpine Race Series. The races have been taking place for many years, and attract the best homegrown talent in British ski racing. Not only will Oxygene's sponsorship help us run high quality races, it will also give two young skiers an unrivalled opportunity to start their career as a ski instructor in the French Alps.”

Oxygène Ski School Director Bertrand de Monvallier said of the sponsorship: “By sponsoring the GBR Race Series, our aim is to encourage British skiers to consider a career within the ski industry. There is a huge demand for English native instructors in the French Alps, and from this partnership we would like to give young talented British skiers the chance to learn more about training to become a ski instructor in the French Alps.”
