Talented athletes and apprentices from British Ski & Snowboard, Disability Snowsport UK and Snow-Camp, are planning to share their inspiration, enthusiasm and knowledge at a series of school assemblies across the UK, supported by Delancey. ...Â
Children and teachers are being offered the unique opportunity to apply for their own school to be added to the snowsport assembly calendar, which is being launched following a truly sensational year for British snowsport athletes.
Impressive highlights from the season include GB snowboarder Billy Morgan landing the world's first Quad Cork, Paralympic skier Millie Knight being crowned World Cup GS and Europa Cup champion, Andrew Musgrave becoming the fastest skier in a World Cup race, Jaz Taylor winning bronze in the Telemark World Championships and Dave Ryding achieving two top 20 finishes in Slalom World Cups.
Alongside the British team athletes, young apprentices from the innovative charity Snow-Camp have also had a life changing year. Coming from underprivileged inner-city locations, these apprentices were able to sign up for ski and snowboard lessons through their local boroughs and have now experienced the mountains for the first time, whilst learning hugely important life skills for future employment in the process.
Kick-starting the programme, British Ski and Snowboard athlete Cara Brown, who will be visiting children at Alpha Plus Group School, Portland Place commented: “After a busy season, it will be fantastic to share my story and inspire more children to get involved in the sport. Skiing is hugely important in teaching how hard work can help you reach your goals - no matter how many times you fall!”
Disability Snowsport UK athlete Ben Sneesby who will be attending an assembly at Pembridge School in June said: “I'm looking forward to showing the kids that they can reach their dreams, regardless of ability, so long as they work hard, do what they enjoy and take a few risks.”
Snow-Camp apprentice Jonjoe Boulter said: “It is important more people are made aware of the different routes into snowsports as getting involved with Snow-Camp has been life changing for me. Â Gaining my qualifications in skiing and being given opportunities to work overseas has given me so much confidence, and more importantly given me a chance to leave behind the challenges of living on my estate and do something positive with my life.”
Organised by real estate investment, development and advisory company Delancey, who last year became Principal Sponsor of British Ski & Snowboard, it is hoped these assemblies will not only encourage more youngsters to get involved in snowsports regardless of their background or ability, but will also generate more support from the nation for Great Britain's athletes.
