THIS SUNDAY: 2015 Delancey British National Alpine Ski Championships begin in Tignes, kicking-off a momentous fortnight in British snowsport history

The 2015 Delancey British Alpine Championships, the biggest event in the British Alpine ski racing calendar, begin this Sunday in Tignes in what promises to be an exciting week for British snowsports, with the British Snowboard and Freeski Championships (The BRITS) and the British University Snowsport Championships (BUSC), also taking place in resort.  ... 

Supported by Delancey for the 5th year, the Senior and Junior British National Alpine Ski Championships take place from Sunday 22 March to Sunday 29 March, followed by the Under 16 and Under 14 Championships from 30 March to 3 April, with the first week of racing featuring the best of British Alpine skiers, including big names such as Team GB athlete Dave Ryding and World Cup competitors Charlie Guest and Alex Tilley. 

In the Senior and Juniors competition, our talented athletes will battle it out to become the Delancey British Champion in Downhill, Super G, GS, Slalom, with the most successful male and female claiming the overall crown.

Athletes to look out for include Slalom specialist Dave Ryding who comes off the back of a 2nd place overall finish in the Europa Cup Slalom standings and significant top 20 World Cup results earlier in the season. Nick Moynihan is also due to travel to Tignes following the Europa Cup in Kranjska Gora and will be joined by teammate Max Baggio fresh from World Junior Alpine Championships along with Billy Major and Alex Barounos, who could well be up there competing for the titles. Under 18 men to look out for include Ollie Davies, Jordan Fellows and Robert Poth.

For the ladies, both Charlie Guest and Alex Tilley will be competing in Tignes. Charlie Guest has made a remarkable come back this season. After breaking her back in December, she competed in the World Championships just a few weeks ago, and is already close to getting back to full fitness. Alex Tilley has had a good season, with some excellent Europa Cup results, and some solid World Cup finishes. Other names to look out for in the ladies' competitions include Cara Brown and Darcie Mead, as well as Megan Jenkins, Anna Henderson, Jess Anderson and Honor Clissold in the Under 18 category.

The BRITS - www.the-brits.com - take place from 21-28 March, also in Tignes, and will feature some of the rising stars of British freeskiing and snowboarding. Big names due to attend include Sochi star Murray Buchan who will compete in Ski Halfpipe as well as Slopestyle skier Tyler Harding who is returning from injury. GB Park and Pipe snowboarders competing at the Brits include Lewis Courtier Jones, Jamie Trinder, Henry Shackelton and Matt McCormick.

After 10 years in Meribel, the Delancey British National Alpine Ski Championships has moved to Tignes for 2015, with all the action taking place at the Stade Olympiques de Lognan in Val Claret, where the base of the race piste is situated at 2100m. Tignes has stamped its mark as one of the world's leading resorts for major events and the resort has unrivalled experience in hosting ski competitions and championships.

Dave Edwards, Chief Executive of British Ski and Snowboard said of the move: “We are hugely excited for next week's Delancey Championships, a significant feature of the British Alpine Skiing calendar which provides crucial FIS points for our athletes. With most of our big names competing at the event, we are looking forward to seeing some competitive racing in Tignes, the new home of the Championships.

2015 will be the 37th year that Sir John Ritblat - President of British Ski and Snowboard and Chairman of Delancey's Advisory Board - has been involved with sponsorship of the sport. Sir John continues to be one of skiing's strongest supporters alongside his son Jamie Ritblat who is founder and CEO of Delancey, British Ski and Snowboard Principal Sponsor.
