Peter Barandun is the new President of Swiss Ski

Peter Barandun has been elected head of Swiss-Ski at an extraordinary meeting of delegates on Wednesday evening in Aarau. After 14 months as co-president, the Graubünden native will now head the umbrella organization for Swiss snow sports as the sole president.

Peter Barandun has been a member of the Swiss Ski Executive Board since 2012 - initially as Vice President for twelve years, most recently as Co-President since the end of June 2024. At the extraordinary delegates' meeting of Swiss-Ski in Aarau, which was held in the wake of Urs Lehmann's resignation as co-president, the representatives of the regional associations and ski clubs elected him to the head of the association with a vote share of 100% (and therefore without any dissenting votes or abstentions). At the end of August, the executive board of Swiss-Ski had already unanimously agreed that Peter Barandun should head the association as the sole president. As a result, there was no opposing candidacy.

“I am very pleased about the immense trust that the ski clubs, the regional associations and within Swiss-Ski have placed in me,” says Peter Barandun. “Together we have raised Swiss snow sports to a top level in recent years, both in terms of sport and economy. It is now important to continue on this successful path and at the same time remain open to necessary, profitable further developments.” Peter Barandun works as CEO and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Electrolux Switzerland. He will continue to perform this function fully with the support of his well-rehearsed management team.

Stefan Binggeli elected Vice President

As a replacement for the resigned co-president Urs Lehmann, an additional vice-president, Stefan Binggeli, was elected in Aarau - also with a share of the vote of 100%. As a result of this election by the delegates, Binggeli will resign from his position as President of Schneesport Mittelland-Nordwestschweiz (SSM) and resign from the SSM board. The Interregion Mitte, in turn, which the Bernese has represented on the Swiss Ski Executive Board since 2019, will reorganize its representation in the top management body of the umbrella organization.

The change from two co-presidents (Urs Lehmann and Peter Barandun) and one vice-president (Tamara Wolf) and one vice-president (Claude-Alain Schmidhalter) to one president, one vice-president and two vice-presidents does not change the path that was taken a long time ago to distribute management responsibility more broadly. “The election of Tamara Wolf as Vice President of the Swiss 2038 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games Association and that of Claude-Alain Schmidhalter as OC President of the 2027 Alpine Ski World Championships in Crans-Montana are examples of the fact that Urs Lehmann’s tasks are being transferred to several people,” says Peter Barandun.

For the remaining term of office until summer 2028, the Presidium of Swiss-Ski will be composed as follows after the extraordinary delegates' meeting in Aarau: Peter Barandun (President), Claude-Alain Schmidhalter (Vice-President), Tamara Wolf (Vice-President), Stefan Binggeli (Vice-President), Raphaëlle Favre Schnyder (Interregion representative). West) and Jörg Abderhalden (representative of the Interregion East). The representation of the Interregion Mitte is currently vacant.

The next regular Swiss-Ski delegate meeting will take place on July 4, 2026 in Schangnau. Urs Lehmann, who was unable to attend on Wednesday, will also be honored.
