All week Marcel Hirscher had been explaining to the media that he was in Beaver Creak to do the Super G to try and stem the points that Aksel Lund Svindal was stockpiling in the speed events. After the three successive win in a speed event the day before, Hirscher must have been fearing the worst. Then the weather changed. Hirscher was smiled on by the draw, getting bib 4, and the rest is history - this was his first World Cup win in Super G and his 32nd World Cup win in all disciplines. After taking third in Soelden, the race is on again for a historical fifth successive Overall title. Ted Ligety put down an impressive run from the back of the top 30 pack to take second while Andrew Weibrecht took third.
