After storm  came the powder snow. With the powder snow came lots of extra work and this caused the postponement of the Men's race as while the line was great, firm and fast, racers that went off the line put themselves at risk of injury. The girls meanwhile ... managed to get two runs in and there was a victory for Spain's Julia Bargallo with Finland's Minttu Sinkonnen in second and Spain's Mariona Boix placing third. England's Alice Macaulay took fourth with Darcie Mead in fifth.
Nineteen year old Alice Macaulay posted a second result for her season in Giant Slalom with this 52 point result. Macaulay put in a tremendous first run that saw her place fifth in a tightly packed group of racers. With virtually the same course set for the second run, Macaulay, was slightly off the pace and saw Boix pass her as well as Bargallo extend her advantage of two hundredths and take the win. While it was her teammate beth Widdup who was getting the plaudits from the Slalom race, this time it was Macaulay who was up challenging with the best in the race.
Mead almost recovered from a poor first run to make the podium but while her second run time was up with the best, she had lost too much time on the first run to be in with a shout to make the podium. If Mead could out two runs together like her second run, she would have been on for a low forty point result instead of a low fifty point result. Giant Slalom is decided over two runs!
Beth Widdup produced the third best English performance to come from start number 24 down to 11th place with Honor Clissold and Nicole Ritchie sharing 14th spot.
The weather conditions have meant that there is a change in the programme for the rest of the week with Tuesday seeing a GS, wednesday a Slalom and Thursday a double Super G. The final day of racing will be a Giant Slalom.
