One of the country's leading wireless technology experts, Rapier Systems, has just completed the installation of a secure, high speed wireless communications link from Aviemore to the Visitor Centre on Cairngorm Mountain, a distance of over seven miles.
At 130Mbps the wireless link to the mountain far exceeds the 10Mbps broadband cable feed into Aviemore, ... and is immune to the extremes of weather that are common on the mountain.
The next phase, already underway, will see local businesses in and around the Cairngorms connected to the high speed network; currently these businesses have very poor Internet connectivity.
In the final phase Rapier will add public and corporate WiFi for all buildings at the ski resort (including those at the top and bottom of the funicular railway) and 'hot spots' in and around the ski lift areas.
