British Telemark racer Jasmin Taylor took silver medal in today's opening World Cup Parallel Sprint race of the 2013/14 season, making her the first British athlete to reach the podium in this challenging wintersport discipline. ...Â
Skiing consistently well in the mornings heats, Taylor reached the final round of the competition and drew Swiss telemark veteran and reigning World Champion, Amelie Reymond.
British Team Manager and FIS Telemark Chairman, Andrew Clarke commented, “Jasmin beat fellow teammate Anna Morrissey and continued on through the next three rounds to find herself up against the ubiquitous Amelie Reymond, who secured two wins in previous days. Not prepared to give Reymond an inch she battled on in the first run, chasing by only a few tenths of a second into the rap and then following in hot pursuit into the skate. Reymond took the first run with only a couple of ski lengths in it...
In the second run, despite the clear lead Jasmin was relentless and skated the last 100m hard. Unfortunately it was not enough to win but it was more than enough to give Jasmin her first Senior World Cup podium and put British Telemark firmly on the map!”
Taylor will now return to her training base in Les Houches, France to commence preparations ahead of the next round of the FIS Telemark World Cup which will be staged in the popular French resort of Les Contamines from the 21 - 23 December.
