After his victory in the sprint downhill, Marco Odermatt is more than ever the favorite for Friday's super-G. Alongside Austria's Vincent Kriechmayr, the Swiss is the man to beat in the second of three speed races on the Saslong.
Two super-G races have been held so far this winter: Marco Odermatt was the winner in one, Vincent Kriechmayr triumphed in the other. There are many indications that one of these two athletes could be standing on the top step of the podium again on Friday.
Odermatt will tackle the super-G with bib 8, chasing his first super-G victory on the Saslong. Austria's Kriechmayr, who has already won the Val Gardena/Gröden super-G twice and currently leads the discipline standings, will follow shortly afterwards with bib 13.
The super-G will be opened on Friday at 11:45 am by Canadian James Crawford. Local favorite Dominik Paris from Ultimo/Ulten will start with bib number 6, followed by last year's winner Mattia Casse (Italy) with bib number 9. In addition to the athletes mentioned above, several Swiss athletes are also worth keeping an eye on in the top group: downhill runner-up Franjo von Allmen will start with bib 10, Stefan Rogentin will follow with 12, and Alexis Monney will tackle the super-G with bib 15.
A little later, it will be the turn of five-time Val Gardena/Gröden winner Aleksander Aamodt Kilde. The Norwegian, who did not finish in the points in the sprint downhill, will start the race with bib 25. The last athlete in the top 30 to leave the start house will be veteran Christof Innerhofer. In addition to Paris and Innerhofer, two other South Tyroleans will be at the start: Florian Schieder from Castelrotto and Max Perathoner, the “host” from Wolkenstein. Schieder will tackle the super-G with bib 43, followed by Perathoner with bib 55.
