Day three of the Ambition Championships saw the smiles from the racing get bigger and with the fresh snow, the enjoyment of being in the mountains became even more apparent. This is race time. This is why we go ski racing.
George Wood took the top spot in the Under 16 boys GS race, winning by almost two and a half seconds from his Ambition teammate Augustin Bozzetto with Harrison Adkins, an under 14 racer, taking third place overall. Third place in the Under 16 category was Lucas Collyer-Todd.
With no racing last year, many of the under 14 racers do not have seed points at the moment and so running their race in conjunction with the older age group, makes common sense.
With Adkins and Faber running earlier than the Under 16 racers, they made good use of their earlier starts and challenged the older racers. Coping with the fresh snow is always a challenge for the racers and after the race, race organiser Marc Telling asked the racers to help each other in keeping the course as fair as possible. Getting the younger racers to help the older racers and vice versa is always going to be a tough call but a necessary call for reasons of safety and helping each other.
Adkins and Faber took the top two spots in the younger age group overall with Noah Kendal taking third. Calum Hunter took second on the first run behind Adkins before crashing out on the second run. Adkins posted the fastest time on both runs.
Emily Turner won both runs to take took the top spot in the Under 16 girls race ahead of Ffion Lewis with Katie Saunders in third.
Lucy Howeson produced another great performance to take the Under 14 girls race win, finishing in third overall. Alice Beveridge and Isabella Sullivan joined. Howeson on the under 14 girls podium.
Sylvia Curtis took the race win in the Under 10 pro slalom race ahead of Cecilia Hamer and Sofia Philip. In the under 12 age group, the win went to Lowri Howie ahead of Lily Flitton and Evienne Arnold, Flitton produced a much improved second run to jump up the results list.
Marcus Pop won the Under 10 boys ahead of Samuel Greenland.
In the Under 12 boys race Sebastian Anthony took the race win ahead of Xavier Poynton with Alexandre Thomas in third who just edged out Craig Menzies. Both Menzies produced a much improved second run to push himself up at the expense of Alfie Croft.
With this, the second set of races after almost two years without races, seeing clubs battle it out and with the standard of racing growing, ambition wrote on their instagram page: 'A huge thanks to all the clubs bringing their best to battle it out on the snow.' Very true words.
Another day of Giant Slalom racing awaits the future stars of tomorrow ....
