Noel puts down a marker in Val d'Isere first run

Clement Noel has posted the fastest time in the first run in Val d'Isere as a host of big names have missed the cut. Noel leads from rising Italian star, Alex Vinatzer with World Champion Sebastian Foss-Solevaag in third. Tanguy Nef and Manuel Feller round out the top five finishers after run one. Britain's Dave Ryding is in equal ninth with Daniel Yule.

The Men's slalom is the last of the disciplines to get underway this season and the excitement was evident from the moment Foss-Solevaag kicked out of the gate. The Norwegian World Champion produced a great run yet it was tough to see how good it was but when Ramon Zenhaeusern and Henrik Kristoffersen both were way off the pace, you could feel that this had been a cracking run.

As it was it is Clement Noel who leads with an even better run and a powerful run by Italian Alex Vinatzer pushed the Norwegian down to third.

Britain's Dave Ryding is in ninth, joint with his good friend and Social Media sparring partner, Daniel Yule. Ryding came down into sixth, a second off the pace set by the Frenchman. When he came through the finish, Ryding looked as though he was happy with the place, he had started 11, but was maybe a little mystified by the time gap to the lead. Small mistakes on the steep may have cost him but this was a great start to the season for the British racer.

The big talking point from the first run was the problems many of the Rossignol racers were having and the number of big names that will not be back for the second run: Schwarz, Pinturault, Matt and Khoroshilov all failing to make the cut after either making mistakes or just not getting it together.

When the results from the run were released it was announced that Victor Muffet-Jeandet was disqualified having been deemed to have straddled gate 47, giving a reprieve to Manfred Moelgg who had been in 31st place.

Britain's Laurie Taylor was one of 20 racers not to make the finish. Taylor had been in scintillating form as he battled down the course and was in contention to make the cut when he straddled as he came off the steep and into the run in to the finish.

Run two promises to be a crackerjack of a race!
