This season there won’t be the World Championships nor the Olympic Games, so the classic Audi FIS Ski World Cup races will be the ultimate goal for all the athletes. Cortina d’Ampezzo will host the Audi FIS Ski World Cup Finals where, after five race days, the crystal globes will be awarded to the best athletes of the men’s and women’s World Cup season. Cortina will be the endpoint of a great season with the usual kick-off in Sölden and the Italian races in December.
On Friday 20
th and Saturday 21
st, December the men’s Audi FIS Ski World Cup will be in Val Gardena/Gröden. In this 52
nd edition of the race, the Saslong slope will see Dominik Paris, Kjetil Jansrud and the other athletes compete for the victory. This year, this classic race celebrates the 50
th anniversary of the 1970 World Ski Championships which had been organised right in Val Gardena/Gröden. After taking part in one of the fastest and most beautiful World Cup races with many technical parts, such as the ‘camel humps’, the athletes will move to Alta Badia for the Giant Slalom and the night Parallel Giant Slalom on the Gran Risa slope. Many champions took home the victory on this slope, including Alberto Tomba, Bode Miller and Marcel Hirscher. Immediately after Christmas, the athletes will be in Bormio, ready to take part in the Downhill and in the Alpine combined on the Stelvio slope.
The 3Tre in Madonna di Campiglio will be the first Italian race in 2020 on 8
th January. This is the first time this spectacular night slalom takes place in this part of the season. Every year, 3Tre, Italy’s oldest ski race now in its 66
thedition, draws thousands of fans at the foot of the legendary slope Canalone Miramonti, directly in the heart of Madonna di Campiglio. A few weeks later, the women’s Audi FIS Ski World Cup will be in Italy, first in Sestriere (on 18
th and 19th January
) and then in La Thuile in late February.
This year, the Italian World Cup races will have an added value thanks to the collaboration between the Organising Committees of the men’s World Cup races in Val Gardena/Gröden, Alta Badia, Bormio and Madonna di Campiglio and Fondazione Cortina 2021, the organising committee of the Audi FIS Ski World Cup Finals. This partnership was born from the common desire to promote alpine skiing in Italy not as individual Organising Committees but as a union of Committees with the aim to promote the races together thanks to joint communication and ticketing actions.
In detail, this collaboration includes activities such as digital communication and promotion of events, joint participation in main and side events and the enhancement of the territories as destinations dedicated to alpine skiing. In particular, a special deal was reached with Gardena/Gröden, Alta Badia and Madonna di Campiglio: if fans buy a ticket for one of these three World Cup races, they will get a 15% discount on the online ticket purchase for the Audi FIS Ski World Cup Finals in March 2020. This will be a unique opportunity for fans to experience the thrill of a World Cup race, support their favourite athletes on the slopes Saslong, Gran Risa and Canalone Miramonti and then cheer for them during the Finals on the Vertigo slope in Cortina d'Ampezzo.
This cooperation aims to establish a successful collaboration between all the Italian mountain organisations in view of the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in February 2021, i.e. the most important international sporting event to be held in Italy in the next two years.
Tickets for the Finals can be purchased online from 1
