The final British Giant Slalom races on the FIS calendar for the season saw Zak Vinter and Nicole Ritchie continue their winning form to make it two wins from the two races at the Nevis Range races. Ritchie took the win from Megan Clark with Hannah Gray taking third while Vinter took the win from Fraser Middleton with Charles Rankin taking third.
The story of the day was the fall down the leaderboard of top seed in the race Iain Innes. after having just been pipped by Vinter on the first run, Innes was hoping to exact revenge on his friend Vinter who had won the previous days race. After the race, Innes explained three things had gone awry for him on the second run: he had inexplicably under estimated the pitch, had tried a new wax that had not worked quickly at all and to make matters worse had used his training skis rather than his race skis. Innes was trying to see the funny side of things but was frustrated by his errors.
Vinter had put in a strong performance that saw him yield a good performance, albeit not quite as good as the day before when he scored a result that will help his FIS points for next season. With Middleton happy with his performance, Rankin was also happier after slipping on his inside the day before that saw him slide down the results.
Ritchie knows that she can do better and was left feeling frustrated after seeing from the start Ella Still walk out of her skis near the top of the course. "Had Ella clipped back into her skis, as we were all screaming for her to do from the start, the penalty would have been better. Still I know next season I have things I can work on and now it is time for the slalom at Aviemore."
Thomas Cherry and Rory Farren rounded out the top five on the men's race.
With the timing of the event meaning a number of aspiring racers missed out on making some great results, Saturday will see both Slalom races run to try and beat the weather. As the rest of Britain will be baking on the beach, hardy ski racers will be lapping up the rays on the slopes at Aviemore.
