Nico Walther has celebrated his second win of the season at the BMW IBSF World Cup race in St. Moritz (SUI). At the seventh of this Olympic season’s eight races, Walther and his brakeman Christian Poser set a new track record (1:05.10 minutes) in the second heat and overtook the first-heat leaders Francesco Friedrich/Thorsten Margis (GER, 0.05 seconds behind). The World Champion Francesco Friedrich and his brakeman Margis set a new start record for the Olympia Bobrun St. Moritz- Celerina (4.99 seconds). Johannes Lochner (GER, 0.21 seconds back), who was racing with Christopher Weber, finished in third, making it onto the World Cup podium for the first time this season.
The current leader in the World Cup standings, Justin Kripps of Canada, and his brakeman Jesse Lumsden missed out on their fifth podium finish from seven races and finished in fourth.
In the overall standings in the 2017/2018 BMW IBSF World Cup, Justin Kripps (CAN, 1,431 points) has maintained his lead over Francesco Friedrich (GER, 1,279), making him the favourite to take the overall title at the World Cup finale in Königssee (GER, 19 to 21 January). Chris Spring (CAN, 1,259), seventh in St. Moritz, is third overall.
Great Britain pairing of Bradley Hall and Joel Fearon finished in 18th plane 1.56 seconds behind the Germans.
The IBSF will announce the 2018 Olympic quota slots next week following the latest rounds of IBSF competitions, Racer Ready will be previewing the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in the coming weeks.
