NADINE FEST WAS once again unstoppable. In the ladies’ Alpine Combined won again, taking her second gold medal in the FIS Junior Alpine World Ski Championships, followed by Slovenia’s Meta Hrovat and teammate Franziska Gritsch.
Yesterday’s Super G saw the Austrian women’s team take the top four places, with 18-year-old Nadine Fest as the undisputed winner. In Friday’s Alpine Combined she had two good runs, finishing first once again.
"It feels amazing, I have no words for this. I was so nervous at the slalom start but it was a solid run and now I’m just happy," said the first time 'Juniors' racer.
It was a bumpy road to the finish line in the Super G and there was some flat light at the start. But Fest and teammate Franziska Gritsch obviously had a good day despite that.
"The Super G had a bit of flat light but we had great conditions. It was a really good Super G run," says Fest.
Franziska Gritsch also took a podium place for the second time, when she finished third in the ladies’ Alpine Combined. Meta Hrovat, Slovenia, pushed ahead of the Austrian with just one-hundredths of a second and took second place.
"The Super G run was good because I’m not normally a Super G-skier. I felt good because I had good clean turns but I didn’t really have a good feeling between the gates in the slalom. But I guess it was enough,” said 19-year-old Hrovat.
This is her second FIS Junior Alpine World Ski Championships and she is happy with the conditions. And she didn’t have a problem with the flat light in the morning.
"The snow couldn’t be better for racing, there are no bumps, and I think the conditions are pretty much the same for all athletes, so that’s awesome. There was a bit of flat light but you just have to feel the snow and then it’s ok."
Tomorrow, Saturday, the men’s Alpine Combined starts at 9.30 with the Super G run and continues at 13.00 with the Slalom. To top off tomorrow’s and today’s competitions a volleyball tournament will be held in Åre Square, starting at 17.30. The prize ceremony for the ladies’ and men’s Alpine Combined will be held at Åre Square at 19.00.
