Marcel Hirscher laid down a marker to the rest of the field as he took the lead in the first run in Alta Badia. Hirscher, winner of the last four Giant Slalom races in Alta Badia, produced a smooth fast run to grab the lead. Hirscher made the turns look smooth, round and creating speed while the rest of the field chopped and cut their turns to try and live with the speed that Hirscher was creating.
