Ryan Bunton of Hemel won the boys All England title in Gloucester. The boys race consisted of two runs through one stubby course with the fastest run to count.
Local Gloucester coach Richard Lambden set the first course of the day. The course had an early hairpin at the top of the course followed by a few tight offset turns going into a verticalli over the flat middle section of the slope. The rest of the course had a relentless corridor of gates that varied in width and distance.
Bunton was first up in the boys. The Hemel racer had a clean top section but made slight mistakes on the key offset turns towards the end of the course. Despite this he powered home with a time of 22.51.
The first run of the boys was chaotic with many of the racers skiing out or having to hike to complete their run. Alex Ogdon of Norflok was one of the racers who had to hike but had all to play for on the second run still.
Charlie Deem was the next U12 racer that put down a solid run. The Midlands managed to navigate the hard sections without bleeding too much time and finished with a time of 22.72.
Jack Cox of Torquay slotted into third in the U12 category with a time of 23.74 but there were a lot of fast young boys ready to make up for their mistakes for the second run.
In the U10 race Lewis Patron got a time of 23.34 which put him in the lead ahead of Harri Hodson on 25.36 and Benjamin Sharples with 28.60. Yet again there were still a lot of fast U10s ready to make up for their huge mistakes going into the second run.
On the second run Bunton looked visibly quicker on the top section and managed to handle the tough offsets at the bottom much better this time. This improvement was reflected in his time to when he got a 21.95.
This time Ogden put down a very clean and smooth run. The Norfolk racer had a lot of pressure to produce a good run after having to hike on the first but managed to produce the second fastest time of the day with a 22.08.
Deem unfortunately couldn’t improve on his solid first run time because he skied out on his final run. This meant Bunton had won he U12 and boys overall ahead of Odgden by 0.13 seconds with Deem in third.
In the U10s Parton didn’t improve on his first run time but it was still enough to finish first, despite a last run charge by Liam Atkinson of Chatham with a 23.50 second run time. Parton won the U10 category ahead of Atkinson with Finlay Royle finishing third.
