Mikaela Shiffrin was relieved and excited to have won her first race of the season after posting a commanding first run lead before hanging on, in her words, to win the opening Women’s Slalom of the World Cup year. Shiffrin was in dominant form on the first run as Frida Hansdotter and Wendy Holdener shared second place, almost three quarters of a second behind. Hansdotter crashed out on the second run while Holdener raised her game up a notch to take the runners up spot with Petra Vlhova storming into third.
