Mead and Fellows take Super G titles and Alicija Krahelski claims second U16 title at the English Alpine Championships

Day three of the English Alpine Ski Championships saw Darcie Mead (18, Kingston Upon Thames) take another English title, finishing fastest English athlete in the Ladies FIS Super G on the Stelvio piste. In second was Abbie Macey (20) from Birmingham and Jessica Anderson took third spot. ...

There was a notable performance from Welsh athlete Megan Jenkins who was second fastest home nations skier behind Cara Brown from Scotland, with both of them clocking a faster time than Mead. In the Under 18 category, Isabel Kirk (17) from Kendal was third British woman behind Anderson (2nd) and Jenkins (1st). In the Under 21 category, the top three British ladies were Brown (1st), Mead (2nd) and Macey (3rd).

Mead got her revenge later in the day though in the BARSC Super G, beating rival Cara Brown, with Megan Jenkins taking third spot amongst the Brits.

Darcie Mead said: “I didn't have the confidence in myself that I should have after a few crashes in Super G last season. I was a bit disappointed to have been beaten in the FIS race, despite taking the English title, so in the BARSC race I thought that I just had to go for it. I just went all out and I am glad I did. I don't always like to compare myself to other skiers, but Cara is a talented skier, and after being beaten by her this morning, to win the BARSC race this afternoon is a big improvement and a good marker for me.”

In the Men's FIS Super G, Jordan Fellows (17) from Walsall was crowned English Champion clocking a time of 1.11.11. In what was a fantastic performance from Fellows, he beat off the challenge of in-form Ollie Davies (17, Guildford) who took second spot amongst the English skiers in a time of 1.12.07. Ollie Eaton (18) from Stockton in Warwickshire took third. Paul Henderson from Scotland was the fastest home nations skier with a time of 1.10.00.

For the Under 18's, Milo McCloud (17) from Somerset took third spot behind Ollie Davies in second and U18 English Champion Jordan Fellows. For the Under 21's, Ben Fluck was third fastest British racer, with Oliver Eaton in second (and fastest English U21) and Paul Henderson from Scotland winning the U21 category.

In the BARSC Super G Ollie Davies raised his game to win the race, with Ollie Eaton finishing in second and Jordan Fellows taking third amongst the Brits.

Jordan Fellows said: “I just went for it, I took a good line and the skis were running well. It was really good, I am happy. It is good to share the results with Ollie, with him winning the BARSC race. We are both skiing well at the moment. Looking ahead, I hope to get a good result in the NJR GS tomorrow which is my best discipline.”

Over on the Stella Alpina race piste, it was the turn of the U14 and U16 racers to take on the Slalom course. In the U16 girl's Slalom, Alicija Krahelski (15, London) took her second title of the English Championships in comprehensive style winning by over 7 seconds and beating off challenges from Isabella Colley (15) from Kingston Upon Thames who finished in second and third English racer was Megan Riley (14) from Aylesbury.

There was an outstanding performance from 13-year-old Sarah Woodward (13) from Hampshire who took the title of English Champion in the girl's U14 Slalom, beating her nearest competitor by over 5 seconds. Second place went to Siena Horton (12) from Barnt Green and Arabella Ng (13) took third place.

In the Boy's U16 Slalom, Angus Wills (15) from London was crowned English Champion with the next English racer Jack O'Neill (15) then Declan Huppach from Barnoldswick (15). David Christey and Scott Buchan from Scotland came second and third overall.

Toby Case (12) from Fleet, Hampshire won the U14 Slalom, beating off the challenge from Scottish skier Owen Vinter. Coming second from the English racers was Olivier Weeks (13) from Leamington Spa and third was Aarong Troung (13) from Ipswich.

The English Championships continue tomorrow with the FIS NJR GS on Stelvio and the U10/U12 Combi on Adler piste.
