Three gates from home and looking to end a run that went back to 1981, Mikaela Shiffrin slipped on to her inside ski and crashed out of the second World Cup Giant Slalom of the season. Standing in the finish, Lara Gut, Eva-Maria Brem and Federica Brignone did not know what to do. The stunned silence of the crowd that believed they were about to see the first American racer win in Aspen since 1981 struggled to believe that Shiffrin had crashed out. Gut had won only her second GS of her World Cup career, her 13th in total while Brem had almost made it back to back wins in Aspen.
