Parsons just misses podium in Konigsee

Dominic Parsons produced a confidence boosting World Cup performance in Konigssee.

Sixth after the first run, he moved up to fourth at the finish despite the challenging weather and track conditions. ...

The 27-year old, from Dulwich in London, got away brilliantly in both his runs with start times of 4.76 & 4.77.

The Sochi Olympian's overall time of 1:43.39 was just 0.10 off American Mark Antoine who took bronze and 0.24 off silver.

Following the race, Parsons said: "I had quite a strong week here and made some good progress thanks to our coaching team and help from Bromley Sports. It was great to have the Europa Cup squad over here to support us during the race too!"

The men's podium was given it's first major shake up of the season in Germany today, with the Latvian brothers, Martins & Tomas Dukurs not taking up first & second for the first time this season as Alexander Tretiakov of Russia won gold.

Ed Smith, of Bristol, did well to qualify for the second run, placing 18th first time round with 52.43. He went onto finish in 1:45.22, after a second run of 52.79, which put him in 20th.

Parsons is now sixth and Smith 17th in the overall World Cup standings this season.

Head Coach of the World Cup squad, Eric Bernotas, said: "Hard work through the week, working through the key areas of the track, confident execution from the athletes rising to the occasion once again and a strong team effort were the key ingredients for another solid week of racing".

The World Cup tour moves to the world-renowned St. Moritz track for next week's race, which is the oldest track in the world having been opened in 1904 and it also the only one which is naturally refrigerated. Live coverage of all World Cup racing will be available via the BBC Sport website.

GB's Intercontinental Cup sliders are in action for the second race of a double-header in Whistler later today, following Donna Creighton's gold yesterday. She will race alongside her ICC teammates David Swift & Kenny Howard. Report and results to follow at http://www.britishskeleton.co.uk/.
