If alpine ski racing is to survive and grow then it is vital that the young racers in the Under 12 and Under 10 age groups are catered for - they are the future racers of alpine and no doubt some will move across to other disciplines but it is these athletes and their parents that the sport has to embrace ... and keep involved. If the fire and determination of the racers that turned up to race at Chill Factore for the Anglo Welsh and the British Indoor is anything to go by, then things are looking good in terms of standard of athlete.
On the Saturday Matilda O'Brien took the girls race win ahead of Holly McGregor-Ogden with Grace Black in third just ahead of the leading Under 10 racer Grace Bennett. Lauren Cooper and Anna Almaly-Asl joining Bennett on the podium. In the boys race, Elliott Bennett took the win just ahead of Jack Upton with Zachery Metheringham in third. Kieran Woolley took the Under 10 win ahead of Kayne Stanway and Elliot Stocks.
The British Indoor titles went to Glesni Catlin from Holly McGregor-Ogden and Grace Black. Grace Bennett made it two wins in two days with Anna Almaly-Asl and Emila Orzel joining her on the podium. Jack Upton posted a faster second run time to overhaul the consistent Elliott Bennett who posted the exact same time on both runs but had to be content with second while Oliver Pollitt almost snatched second with an improved second run to take third. Kayne Stanway took the Under 10's win swapping places from the day before with Kieran Woolley and Elliot Stocks in third again.
