Over the weekend 30th - 31st August the Chilean South American Cup races in El Colorado (GS) and La Parva (SL) took place, with several members of the Delancey British Alpine Team taking place. ... In the ladies races Cara Brown, Beth Widdup & Honor Clissold all competed, whilst in the mens races Charlie Raposo, Nick Moynihan, Billy Major, Max Baggio & Oliver Davies took part. Also competing were Paul Henderson and Kieran Norris, now racing under the Irish flag.
In the GS race Nick Moynihan scored a Personal Best (PB) and finished an impressive 7th, whilst fellow Delancey British Alpine Ski Team teammates Max Baggio and Oliver Davies also scored personal best results underlining the hard work put in this summer.
2012 Youth Olympic athlete Paul Henderson also scored a great result with 30 points moving up from bib 54. After the race Henderson explained that "it felt great to put in a result I knew I was capable of doing and it just feels awesome to put two decent runs together especially as it was my first race back since hurting my back in January. Now just got to repeat it and back it up in Europe. Have to thank Marc Telling and Ambition for the great training and for helping me to come back strong from my injury. We have a great team this year and hopefully this will be the first of many results to come." Henderson had the pleasure of knocking Andrej Sporn, a World Cup downhiller down into 16th with this result.
In the girls race Beth Widdup & Honor Clissold scored PB's on a tough hill to show promise for this season, while 2014 British Overall Champion Cara Brown finished a respectable 11th despite crashing on the first run.
In the slalom race top GBR seed Charlie Raposo was disqualified after straddling the first gate, but Nick Moynihan and Max Baggio again scored PB results and top 15 finishes, with Billy Major also performing well. Kieran Norris also scored a personal best after winning the second run, with Team Evolution athlete Max Baggio was 2nd fastest on the second run after starting the race ranked 38th.
In the girls slalom race Beth Widdup slipped from 3rd place after the 1st run to finish 5th, whilst Honor Clissold and Cara Brown fought against difficult conditions to finish in the top 15.
