As the Under 16 and 14 training groups packed up and headed off to the next port of call, for many home, the final race of the 2013 English Alpine Championships was the FIS Slalom. While the depth of talent in the girls race was not as strong as in the guys, there were still some fine performances. It was the battle that Rob Bullen put up in the Men's race that saw him take third place overall just ahead of Nick Moynihan in fourth place. With both English racers scoring sub forty FIS points, this showed just how the talent amongst the English racers has now improved over the last few years.
Having won all of the technical races in the series so far, local girl Federica Sosio was looking to make it a clean sweep but sadly she was one of many to crash out on the first run. Scotland's Nicole Ritchie was the best placed British racer in ninth place but the prize for the best English racer was taken by Olivia Parker who took 12th place overall. Violet Miller was one place behind her with Welsh racer Georgia Hallett just behind her. Third place amongst the English racers was taken by Sophie Ogden.
With Bullen and Moynihan battling it out for both the overall race win and the English honours, there were also some fascinating battles going on lower down the field. Matthew Thompson, more notable as a speed skier, just held off a second run charge by Ambition's Barney Lewis. Lewis scored a season's best with this result while for Thompson it was a second result for him. Thompson took third amongst the English with this result. Â With educational commitments coming to the fore, this was the last race for Kieran Norris, another of the new crop coming through the Ambition ranks. Norris made it count as he scored a 73 point result, his career best to date in slalom.
