The British viewers of Eurosport were left frustrated following the decision taken at Eurosport to pull coverage just prior to the British Number 1, Chemmy Alcott, starting the second downhill from Lake Louise. After Alcott had produced a stunning run in the first race in her comeback from injury race, interest in the second race and how she would do was very high.
Racer Ready contacted Eurosport to ask them to explain why this happened, Eurosport responded:
"We take our Alpine Skiing TV coverage from Eurosport International (the pan-European channel which broadcasts in 59 countries) and editorially they tend to focus on the top 30 or so skiers. In these cases we are not in control of pictures, however, we understand British skiing fans will have been disappointed not to see Chemmy Alcott's run last night and your feedback will be noted.
Please note there is a live (commentary-free) alpine skiing "bonus" channel available on Eurosport Player which streams the host broadcast feed and does not carry ad breaks. This is available for all FIS World Cup rounds except those held in Finland and Austria. Visit www.eurosportplayer.co.uk for more information about the subscription service."
Racer Ready has since learnt that there has been a lot of discussion at Eurosport during the day regarding this issue. If British racers are to get more coverage, then fans need to keep contacted Eurosport at ukcomms@eurosport.com to keep the British racers on air.
