Brits battle the elements in a frustrating day of racing

Race report - Scandinavian Cup - Classic mass start - Sjusjoen, Norway

After two fairly successful days of racing in Sjusjoen, Norway the British team started the final day at the Scandi cp on a positive note. However the day did not go to plan with a heavy snow storm adding to the complications of a mass start classic race.

The women had an earlier start than the men and had to deal with a soft track and lots of fresh snow. Fiona Hughes finished 52nd followed by Sarah Young in 56th and Posy Musgrave in 61st place. The times in relation to the winner were a bit below their potential however slow snow conditions do tend to separate the field more.

In the mens race Andrew Musgrave was as usual Britains fastest skier battling difficult waxing conditions he managed to place 28th 1min 47sec behind the race winner Anders Aukland from Norway. Andrew Young unfortunately had a bad day at the office coming home a surprising 114th place. Some days don't go to plan and I am guessing this was one.

Andrew Musgrave is currently scheduled to race in tour de ski after Christmas a series of 7 world cup races at 5 different venues in 3 different countries. Hopefully he can build on his early season form with some strong results.
