Mini Slalom race wraps up Welsh Alpine Championships in Les Crosets

The final race of the 2020 Welsh Alpine Championships saw some great racing from the stars of the future. The Steve Edwards set course saw Lowrie Howie in commanding form in the Under 10 girls race, winning the race by almost four seconds! Neave Masters and Iris Smith joined Howie on the Under 10 girls podium.

Bella Sullivan was fastest on both runs in there Under 12 girls race but posted her faster time on the second run. Tia Freshwater and Isabel Watterson joined Sullivan on the podium.

Xavier Poynton made it two wins out of two at the Welsh Alpine Championships as he took the Under 10 boys win from Rufus Wontner and Craig Menzies. Poynton was fastest on both runs.

Ryan Faber posted his best time on the first run to win the Under 12 boys race and then came unstuck on the second run when chasing a faster time. Oliver Martin was second and had to rely on his first run time to finish in second as he crashed out on the second run. Darius Davies took third place.

With the races ending, the Welsh Alpine Championships again produced some great racing at all age groups. Lots of personal best results in the FIS races and some standout performances from the Under 16 and Under 14 racers.

As many of the leading Under 16 and Under 14 racers departed to head off to International races across Europe, Snowsport Wales can be proud of their event that is now one of the strongest events on the winter tour for British racers of all ages.

With support from Champery Tourisme and a strong group of volunteers from Snowsport Wales, the event goes from strength to strength.
