The Audi FIS Alpine Ski World Cup season is now underway after the opening in Sölden (Austria). All the race organizers are working hard to guarantee the continuity of the White Circus calendar, despite the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic.
3Tre Madonna di Campiglio’s organizing committee makes no exception: the World Cup Night Slalom of December 22nd is moving towards a special 67th edition. The experienced team led by President Lorenzo Conci is facing weeks of huge effort, both in monitoring the epidemiologic situation and setting up the necessary measures for the Canalone Miramonti to offer another major show to all the ski fans on next December 22nd.
On the occasion of the FIS inspection of last October 20th, the 3Tre Committee presented to Markus Waldner (Men’s World Cup Chief Race Officer) and Emmanuel Couder (Men’s World Cup Coordinator) a detailed prevention plan to guarantee full safety for the athletes, teams and insiders involved in the night slalom of December 22nd (1st run 17.45 CET (16.45 UK time), 2nd run 20.45 CET (19.45 UK Time)).
In such a particular juncture, professional sports continuity also requires some painful sacrifices, including giving up on the public attendance on the Canalone Miramonti slope as a precautionary measure. A responsible decision, complying with what is happening in professional sports on the international scale, in order to avoid gatherings that could favor the spreading of COVID-19.
“Our next edition is sure to be unique, as the times we live are unique too,” 3Tre President Lorenzo Conciexplained. “COVID-19 poses new and significant organizational challenges, even for an experienced team like ours. There is no doubt that living the World Cup emotions without the fans cheering by the slope will be strange for all of us.”
“Nevertheless,” Conci continued, “everybody’s safety must come first. We also want to do our part to make it possible for the White Circus calendar to continue, for the athletes and all the organizers, in a season that will culminate with the World Championships in Italy, in Cortina.”
“Ski enthusiasts will enjoy a great TV show from Madonna di Campiglio on December 22nd, like the ones the Canalone Miramonti has offered year after year. Even if they are not by the slope, we will do our best for ski lovers to experience the event in an authentic and engaging way: this will be one of our main focuses,” the 3Tre President concluded.
