Luca de Aliprandini produced the run of his career to date to taker the lead after the first run in Adelboden. Giovanni Borsotti then made it an Italian one two in coming down from bib 53 to go just 0.04 behind his teammate. Loic Meillard took third with Erik Read and Mathieu Faivre in fourth and fifth.
With just 1.43 separating the top thirty from the first run, the rollers and steep pitch into the finish created an exciting first run. With Tommy Ford and Leif Kristian Nestvold Haugan from the top seven seeds both crashing out after mistakes on the rollers, Terry alternation to keeping the skis on the snow over the rollers and using the outside ski was important.
No joy for Charlie Raposo but a hugely encouraging performance that saw him within two gates of a second run. Raposo has been edging closer to making the second run and when he came off the steep pitch and into the run into the finish, things were looking promising. Having come back from injury after missing the race in Alta Badia before Christmas, Raposo will be hoping that a run in the Europa Cup races will lead to a better start number when the World Cup returns in Garmisch Partenkirchen in February.
