It is the third win of the season for the women’s skeleton World Champion Jacqueline Lölling (GER), who has won the BMW IBSF World Cup race in Altenberg (GER).
This challenging track, located in the Ore Mountains in the German state of Saxony, close to the Czech border, historically this has been the site of many German triumphs in the past and this continued today with a clean sweep of the medals.
After two runs, Lölling, who is also the defending World Cup holder, held a 0.13-second lead ahead of her team mate Tina Hermann (GER). Anna Fernstädt (GER, 0.43 seconds back) finished third in Altenberg and thus celebrated the second World Cup podium finish of her career.
Lelde Priedulena of Latvia recorded the best time in the second heat. However, after coming sixth in the first heat, she ultimately finished fourth, only just missing out on the podium.
Great Britains sliders were in action with Laura Deas finishing in 8th place, just two tenths off the podium with Olympic Champion Lizzy Yarnold in 19th.
In the overall standings for the 2017/2018 BMW IBSF World Cup, Jacqueline Lölling (GER, 1,227 points) has now further extended her lead. Ahead of the final two races of the season, she now has 89 points on Elisabeth Vathje of Canada (1,118), who finished ninth in Altenberg. Tina Hermann (GER, 1,084), the 2016 World Champion, is third overall.
The World Cup now moves onto the famous track in St Moritz for the final race in the Olympic Qualification series.
