Aksel Lund Svindal explained after the Super G race in Kitzbuehel that the conditions for the opening race of the Hahnenkamm weekend were nothing that any of the racers had experienced before. Svindal posted the fastest time on the day ahead of his fellow Norwegian, Kjetil Jansrud with Matthias Mayer making it a Head one two three for the third time this season. Hannes Reichelt took fourth with Adrien Theaux taking fifth to round out the top five.
