Lee continues her dominance in Landgraaf

Francesca Lee continued her strong showing in Landgraaf in posting comfortably the fastest time on both runs in the second slalom in Landgraaf. Day two saw Shannon POtter raise her game considerably on run 1 to take second overall with Ciorstaidh Struthers just falling short by three hundredths. Louise Brennen and Alice McLeish took fourth and fifth overall.

If Lee was having a dominant time in the main race, Anna Kamaly Asl was mirroring the older racer in taking a clean sweep of race wins in the Under 14 age group. Kamaly- Asl is in her first year of Children’s racing and this weekend was a statement of intent fro what she can do in the forthcoming winter. Victory over the two runs in the second race was over four seconds such was her dominance. Emma Trust took second in both races while Katherine Hart took third in the first race before Lexie Peterson scored her first podium in the last race of the weekend. Kamaly Asl’s time was good enough to have won the Under 16 age group as well.

The Under 16 age group saw business as usual as Emily McLeish took the win ahead of Ella Sullivan and Seren Lewis taking third. McLeish eked out a huge lead on the first run of over three seconds before Sullivan improved her game on the second run to get closer.

Lee ended the weekend showing both Males and Females how far they have to go to really improve. The Landgraaf slope may not be the most challenging but the snow held up and Lee demonstrated to the rest of the field how to generate speed. Lee has certainly benefitted from the coaching and the strength of depth of the British Ski Academy (where she trains and races in the winter). It was great to see Potter raise her challenge on the second day and as a result Struthers also raised her game. Ski racing is about competition and the better the racers that can be attracted to these racers, the better the racing will be.

Avelline Deighton took the Masters age group win.
